Local drivers face an onslaught from Victorian
drivers in the battle for the2010 South Australian Wingless Sprints
Title. Current Victorian State Champion Jeff Judd and current
Australia #2 Bradley Warren head a strong list of Victorian drivers
who are heading to South Australia for a shot at the title.
South Australian Wingless
Sprints organizers have received seventeen nominations from Victoria
and along with the nine nominations from the home State, the race
for the South Australia #1 looks set to be a tough battle. The local
challenge is headed by Rory Button who will lay down the defence of
the South Australian Championship. Button has a ‘double defence’ on
his hands as not only is he the current South Australian Champion,
but he is the current Australian Champion and that event will be
held only a few weeks later. He grabbed a podium position at a
recent meeting at Mount Gambier and is building toward a solid
showing as he attempts to retain his two #1’s.
Two other South Australian
drivers who are expected to make a bold showing in the South
Australian title challenge are Mason Merritt and Todd Wigzell. Both
drivers have won two feature race events so far this season and both
hope to carry on that winning form.
Another Victorian driver who
is expected to perform strongly is Steve Trigg. He finished
runner-up to Merritt just recently in Mount Gambier.
Brett Aprile is making the
long trip from Queensland to contest the title.
The Championship will be held at Borderline Speedway, Mount Gambier
on Saturday 9 January 2010. Drivers will not only be battling it out
for the South Australian Wingless Sprints Title, but will be using
the event as preparation for the 2010 Australian Wingless Sprint
Racing National Title that will also be contested at Borderline
Speedway on 5, 6 and 7 March 2010
