Todd Wigzell came out on top at when the
Wingless Sprints raced at Speedway City on the 26th of December
under a unique twin feature format. All drivers competed in a
pair of 15 lap feature races with the grid positions determined
by a random draw and the overall standings were decided by
overall points accumulated during the night.
The opening feature saw Todd Wigzell take the win after starting
from position 7. Wigzell was followed all the way by Thomas, who
started alongside Wigzell in 8th position. Shannon Barry
finished 3rd after starting from the same position.
After starting in 6th position, Daniel Obst crossed the line in
4th place ahead of Joel Chadwick who started from 10th. Scott
Bogucki finished in 6th after starting from position 11, Greg
Cunningham came from 16th to finish 7th and Mikayla Hein crossed
the line in 8th spot from a 13th place start.
Brad Evans dropped back from position 4, finishing in 9th place
ahead of Brett Bartley who started out of position 2. Robert
Heard dropped one position to finish 10th. After starting from
position 14, Jarman Dalitz was as high as 8th position before
spinning to bring out the yellow lights. Dalitz managed to cross
the line in 11th.
Cody Atkins was running 6th after starting from 12th when his
car slowed on the final lap and was the last of the finishers in
12th. Jason Demaine, Lucy Evans and Simon Lee all failed to
finish.
Due to time restraints the 2nd feature was shortened to 10 laps
instead of 15. Mikayla Hein took the lead in the early stages
after starting on the outside front row and took the victory. It
was the first feature win for Hein who had to fend off
Challenges from Bogucki in 2nd place, Wigzell in 3rd and Barry
who finished 4th in the closing stages of the race. Bogucki
started from position 4 while Wigzell came from 8th to finish
3rd and Barry started in position 12.
Dalitz crossed the line in 5th after starting 3rd after having
to fend off Greg Cunningham who started 2nd and Daniel Obst who
came from 11th place. Andy Thomas finished 8th from position 9
ahead of Cody Atkins who had started in 5th position. Jason
Demaine rounded out the top 10 after starting from 10th
position.
After starting in 13th position Brad Evans gained two positions
to finish 11th. Joel Chadwick recovered from a spin earlier in
the race to finish in 12th place. Chadwick started from 7th
position and was running in the top 5 when he spun. Brett
Bartley finished in 13th after starting in 15th position. Robert
Heard crossed the line in 14th after starting out of 6th place.
Lucy Evans finished in 15th place after starting in 14th. Simon
Lee was unable to start the 2nd feature.
Overall, Todd Wigzell was the highest point score with 450 point
ahead of Mikayla Hein on 400 points with Scott Bogucki and
Shannon Barry tied for 3rd on 390 points.
The wingless Sprints will return to action on the 7th of January
at Speedway City for the 5th round of the Track Championship.
